Feedback provides a great opportunity to develop skills and identify areas you need to improve. We've highlighted key points to think about when both receiving and giving feedback, which can be applied to a wide range of situations.
Feedback is important for a number of reasons, it allows you to:
- Identify areas which need improving, areas which you might not have realized otherwise
- Create a continuous learning loop, where you can iterate and improve your skills over time
- Quantify hard to measure areas such as presentation skills, performance in a team and behavior
- Give people an opportunity to ask for help if they are performing badly in an area, this is particularly true when receiving feedback from your manager
Giving and receiving feedback is a powerful process but needs to be handled carefully. Use this guide to help you get the most out of any feedback session.
FOR EXAMPLE:
The capacity to learn is a gift,
The ability to learn is a skill,
The willingness to learn is a choice
A very warm and cheerful afternoon to one and all present over here in this virtual platform. I am Cadet Vivek Ranjan Sahoo from unit 12 (Odisha) BN NCC Dhenkanal of DAV Public School, MCL, JA, Dera, Talcher.
Today I would like to express my views what I have grasped here from various sessions that has brought many changes in my life and lots of things to explore. First of all, I would like to thank all the presenters for their great efforts to make it a wonderful experience. During these sessions I realized that this not only develop one’s character but overall relationship with oneself. I have learned many heartfulness tools in HELP sessions. Each element serves a unique purpose. Each element helps me relax, focus, reduce stress and change through this method of meditation. I personally noticed some changes in my behavior. We are groomed and nourished from every corner. HELP program gave me an inspiration to perceive excellence in all activities at work and life. The motivational videos shown in this session was really mesmerizing. It will help me a lot to overcome the challenges of life. The most heart-touching session was communication skills as it is the most important part of our life through which we can win anyone’s heart from our sweet-words as “It’s not about what you said, it’s about how you said it”. Rather from this all the other sessions were encouraging from where I have increased my wisdom. All that is required is joyful willingness for self-development. Surely this change will bring success, joy, satisfaction in our life.
Once again, I would like to thank our honorable guest and other dignitaries, along with all my dear cadets for making this 20-day program a grand success. With this spirit, new resolve and new aspiration I would not only inculcate these life-skills in my life but also instill and share it with my friends.
Thank You
Jai Hind
Conclusion
Creating feedback that is truly useful requires more care and attention than is typically invested. Like any skill - painting, swimming, learning English - offering feedback requires that we pay attention to and do many things effectively and simultaneously.
In order to give effective feedback, you need to understand how to receive it constructively. Doing this on a regular bases will help you appreciate feedback from the other persons perspective.
When done correctly, feedback is a powerful means of personal development and shouldn’t be a negative or resentful process – remember that the more practice you get the better you will become at it.
Acting on feedback will make future presentations more effective, improve personal development and help with career progression.
