Children's Day Speech

 Good morning respected teachers and my dear friends.

Robert Frost once said:

“Woods are lovely dark and deep, But I have to promise to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.”

The man who deeply inspired by this poem was none but Jawaharlal Nehru, the First prime minister of free India. I am very much glad as I am given an opportunity to speak something on this auspicious day which is known as Children’s Day.

Children are the future citizens of the country. The future of the country depends upon the present children. If the children do not develop in a proper way, the country’s future will be ruined. This was rightly realized by our late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. So, he advised the people to stop observing his birthday on 14th November and to observe this day as the Children’s Day. Since 1956, the 14th November is, every year, observed in India as the Children’s Day for he was a great lover of children.

Nehru was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He was not only son of Pandit Motilal Nehru, originally a Kashmiri Brahmin, but who settled down at Allahabad as an Advocate. Fortune favored Motilal. In these days he earned annually in lakhs. So naturally he lead a very luxurious and glamorous life. At the age of eleven, Jawahar was get admitted at Harrow’s Institute at Cambridge. He graduated from Cambridge and also became a Barrister after completing the course at Lincon’s Inn of London.

The merit of Nehru and the chance of his being educated in England, made him one of the five Indians who are said to write better than any Englishman. The other four are Gandhiji, Rabindranath Tagore, Sri Aurobindo and Dr. Radhakrishnan.

Apart from patriotism, Nehru had an internally bond outlook. He hated that any nation should subdue another nation. He was a born democrat and hated autocracy. Being a good man, he sacrificed his one fourth of life in the goodwill of India. The great devotee of children Nehru closed his eyes in 27th May 1964. The world mourned his death. But the children salute and remembered that great soul on his birthday which is popularly known as Children’s Day.
